Fuel sending unit?

My fuel gauge doesn't read the fuel correct. the only way to keep track of the fuel is by keeping track of the mpg on my trip meter after I top off or by the amount of money I use for gas.
Anyone else have this problem and what was the fix? Thanks in advance.
