A long story short..I have a 89 240 sohc..I went away this past winter for three months while the car sat untouched. When I returned home I knew the battery would be dead but when I jumped it the engine shook really bad and fuel was seeping from the valve cover. You could see it coming out in small spurts. I Checked the oil dipstick and it smelled like fuel. I was stumped and thought that it might have been the injectors or the pressure regulator so I replaced them, the oil,the oil filter, the fuel filter and I still have the problem. I gave her a complete tune up prior to leaving and she ran like a champ. she has about 260,000 miles on it and the previous original owner babied her. I never drove it much(milage wise) and never drov eit hard. All this from just sitting for a few months....could it be the valve seals?...bad cylinder?...I'm stumped

Take it step by step. First off you know you have a bad valve cover gasket, so replace that. Next do a compression test. I don't see how that much fuel can be coming out your valve cover. The only place your engine is getting fuel from are the injectors and they go into the manifold straight into the cylinder. If you had bad vavle seals or piston rings you should be burning oil as well.

Thanks for replying.. I will definitely replace the valve cover but I want to make sure that the problem is fixed first. Every mechanic I talked to said they never heard of this before which is odd if it is something like the compression or a seal etc. I just don't understand why this is happening from the car just sitting for three months. It never gave me any signs of anything wrong prior to this either. I was trying to fix this myself but I don't really have the tools to go anywhere beyond what I have done already so it looks like I will have to have it towed somewhere to have someone check it out. I hope its nothing major..that would be a bummer because I was set to add a ground package to it and repaint it..now this UGHHHH!!!!!
