It has happened a few times now where I thought I had about a quarter tank and I get in my car and the warning comes on saying my fuel range is 140km (approx 85 miles). Then I drive for 5 minutes and the fuel meter goes up to a quarter tank (like I thought) and the warning goes away.

Has anyone else seen this happen?

Does this mean my car is not recognizing how much fuel it has?

That will happen if you park on a hill.

I live in the flattest part of north america lol

This has happened three times and once was on a driveway, but the other times (including today) was flat concrete.

this happened to me before. my dad is trying to sue the company that made my house cuz they lied about the the building codes and blah blah blah, my driveway is the steepest driveway you will ever find, WAY beyond the city's limits on the building code. ironically, the 1 time it did happen it was in my friend's driveway that is barely tilted at all. so i don't think its necessarily the fact that its at an angle..... idk, mine is all jacked up. low fuel light comes on at 1/4 tank and i actually had the car die on me without the needle even being on the empty line yet..... i just make sure i don't let it drop that much under 1/4 tank.

This happens all the time, it depens on where your parked. And you also got to think that means you have say 4 gallons left according to that plus 3 more in the reserve.

I was parked on flat ground! When I shut my car off I had over a 1/4 tank. A few hours later I started it up again and the needle was almost on E, and the warning came on. The next time I started my car it was back to a 1/4 tank.

That happened to me once too, left a parking lot and the needle was basically buried in the E, but it had about 1/4 tank when I left it. The range just read "- - -" I thought "that can't be good" so I shut er down and turned it back on and it was all better.

Something like that has happened to me a couple times. I had been speeding like crazy and the needle went down way farther than it should have. I had finally slowed down and after a couple mins of driving normally the needle went back up.

The computer estimates how much you have left depending on your driving style. If the last time you drove it you were doin 90 and zipping in and out of traffic, its gonna assume thats how your gonna drive till empty so it will say you have less, because your buring gas a lot quicker.

It shouldnt really matter whether or not your parked on a hill unless you have a dent in your tank. Your tank has a floater in it that estimates how much fuel you have left, and starts reading empty when it gets close to the bottom of the tank.

A buddy of mine had a dent in his tank in his old Silverado and his gauge would go from full to empty for no reason. He would just rock his truck back and forth and it would right back to full...lol
