Ok, I'm like %90 sure my car is running on the rich side (worsened by summer weather) because I have a walbro fuel pump ... on my stock KA motor. I haven't gotten my hands on a fuel pressure gauge but for this thread lets just say thats the reason (I already did the thing where you squeeze the return line to see if it revs, and yea it did). So anyway I was wondering what would be my best bet, either get an aftermarket adjustable FPR or just go back to the stock pump (which I would have to buy). I'd to like to have adjustability, for the track and weather, but if my car runs fine with a stock pump then I guess its not all that important. It's more of a question can I find a reliable adjustable (non rising rate; 200KpA or less min rate) regulator for under $120 or so. Thanks.

I really think you shoul have a look at your pressure with a gauge, If the idle jumps when you squeeze the return line you are mearly doing what the F/P reg does, this same test can be conducted by pulling the vaccum line off the F/P reg at idle and pluging the line. This will verify the regulator is working propelry. I some how dont think the aftermarket pump is your problem, try pulling codes from the ECM see if there is anything stored in there.

Last time I checked I just had a code for the VSS ... (I know it affects a/f ratio, but can it this much?)

I can say this, I never had problems with running rich until I replaced the fuel pump because the car was running lean. The car has high idle (1400 rpm) and when its hot out side the idle goes to about 1k and I get bad milage.

No the speed sensor wont cause the rich condition your experiancing, I still strongly recommend gettting a fuel gauge on it, but also based on how temp seams to affect it take a look at your coolant temp sensor connector see if its got corrosion in it and check the sensors resistance with an ohm meter.

I've already checked that, its not it. I'm working on getting a fuel pressure gauge.
