I have been having a gas smell in my car, which I thought was from the fuel lines in the engine bay. Lately I have been smelling it even after the car sits and I come back to it....so I decided to check out the fuel pump. I found one of the lines not screwed in properly, so I fixed that but found something that REALLY BOTHERS ME.

Looking at the wiring, I noticed on the FUEL PUMP SIDE HARNESS, there are two wires that are spliced together...and further down the harness, toward the pump itself, the wire is just twisted around (someone did a half-assed hack job)

I DO NOT mind rewiring it, but I need to know how to do it. There is one black wire coming off from the pump itself...then it runs to the harness plug. But at the plug itself, there is a blue wire right next to it, and that blue wire is spliced into the black wire....I am not sure if it is supposed to be like that or what.

Can anyone tell me what is going on here?? Where does this blue wire go...and how does this need to be rewired? Pics below:

well I just checked the wiring on mine and the wires match up the same as yours. the blue wire and the thicker black wire are spliced together. I would give you a more detailed explanation as to why but I didn't break out the FSM. 4 wires come from the fuel pump, 1 grounded to the outside of the sending unit, and 6 wires to include the added blue wire go into the connector. I would just clean up the splice job. as for the fuel smell if that loose line didn't fix the smell check the fuel filter. you should be able to blow through it without much effort if it feels like your trying to blow up a balloon with a swizzle stick it probably needs replacing.
