So i'm trying to change the fuel filter on my 1987 300zx. The book says to start the engine and then disconnect the fuel pump to relieve the pressure in the system. Well when i disconnect the electrical line (and i'm sure it's the right one) the engine doesn't stall like it's suppose to. But the funny thing is is that my fuel gauge goes to E so i know it's the right connection. Any thoughts on what might be going on would be greatly appreciated.

Try removing the fuel pump fuse then cranking to stall....and don't forget to open the gas cap to relieve the pressure so you don't have gas shooting all over the place.
