hi-i have a 1990 240sx with a rb20det motor. i recently hot-wired my electric fans to run of the fuel pump fuse{ a write-up from this site, you run the positive wire to the fuel pump fuse and you ground the negative} well it has shorted out the fuel pump i think. the car sputters and will not run. anything i can do to at least make this thing run to my shop or somewhere? thank you. one guy says i need to rewire my fuel pump now??? just thought i would add that.

nothing, i thought i shorted the wiring by hooking up the fans to the fuel pump fuse. the thing about re-wiring was just a thought by a local mechanic. i could have blown the pump itself, or it could be unrelated. it was the electric fans that originally didn't work.

Why would anybody recommend wiring the electric fans with the fuel pump... there is an easily accessible fused connector right by the A/C dryer, just below the battery that makes an excellent connection point for electric fans, and it is very heavy duty wiring. I would disconnect the fan wiring and re-wire to a better connector. Then, rotate the ignition/key to the ACC position and see if you hear the fuel pump motor run for about 5 seconds - you may need someone to listen for you. If you don't hear the motor run, you have definitely got problems (bad wiring, burned up pump motor, etc.). Might be time for a Walbro anyway, 'cause an RB runs like crap on the stock S13 pump (unless you swapped to skyline pump).

well the fans are no longer plugged in at all. the damage is done. my major thing is that my car is so low to the ground and towing it will destroy it. so i was trying to at least get this thing moving down to the shop. maybe i can do the pump myself if neccessary. so fuel pumps go more by the car than the motor? meaning i have a s13 fuel pump, not a stock rb20 one? is it located in the gas tank? thanks guys

Ya, I would consider this a blessing. Like someone else said the RB will run like crap with a stock S13 fuel pump. There is a write up on here to install a Walbro 255 pump. If you go to the back of the 240 and pull up the carpet there is a cover on the passenger side and thats where the fuel pump is at.

thanks i found it. the fuel pump appears to be new, and it is def. pumping. i could hear it. really sounds like my car is just choking up, not getting any gas. i replaced the reley{no change} just to see because i think it is eletrical.

If its pumping its probably not electrical, try changing your fuel filter. And just because its new doesnt mean your getting enough fuel for the RB. It still would be a good idea to switch the pump out anyway for a stock Skyline one or Walbro 255.
