I just replaced my fuel pump to a walbro 255 lph. Now I blow my fuse every 15 seconds. Did i wire something up wrong or is it normal to have to buy a stronger fuse. Thanks in advance for the feedback.

check the tech section of KA-T.org, they have a good writeup on how to hardwire the fuel pump so it gets all the power it needs.

Samething happened to me with my Walbro, it's normal. Upgrade the fuel pump fuse to 5 amp higher rating, that should remedy the problem. Upgrading the fuel filter is also recommended.

I don't know, I never blew mine. Then I hardwired it later. You shouldn't use a larger fuse to solve your problem, because the wire they used was only rated at so much amps. You can probably get away with it, but don't think it is the right way to do things. Also, if you hardwire it, you will get constant flow because the voltage will remain constant. So if you turbo, you will be safer.

i haven't hardwired my walbro [yet]. i think i heard something about poor fuel pump life if i don't do it . . . anybody? oh, and do you really think a 255l/h fuel pump will have trouble if the voltage changes a little? or is it more of a consistency thing, making it easier to tune [just occured to me]?

oh, and the wiring must be easy to do b/c i just cut the old wires and connected the new ones to the walbro. boom. done. just keep an eye on which wire is positive and which is negative.

my mom's van burned to the ground for that reason. she was having some electricla problems, and the chrystler techs decided to put a bigger fuse in to solve the problem. about a month later the dash caught fire and that was all she wrote...

Exactly, what I was going to suggest a recipe for disaster. The fusebox as fuse rated at the safe capacity of the circuit +/- %3. DO NOT INSERT A LARGER FUSE! This will only lead to further electrical problems and or a dangerous condition like a fire. If you need more capacity, run new fuse wiring from the distribution block or battery itself, and fuse appropriately.

240 FAQ:Quote »What kind of modifications did you have to do to install the 300ZX fuel pump?
Quote »Upgrade the fuel pump fuse to 5 amp higher rating.
Quote »Walbro fuel pump at 40 psi- 7.2 amps, recommended fuse or breaker 15 amps
Though I will mention I assumed he was talking about a 240sx prior to 1992 because all 240sx's +1992 already have a 15 amp fuse. So if he has a +1992 240sx, putting in a bigger fuse is NOT advisable.

This is just another reason why people should really state the make, model, year when asking for advice on such things. See what happens when they dont?
