Also who ever "melted a piston" is lying to you. You would have to have EXSTREME heat to "melt" a piston and lack of fuel doesnt make the engine hotter it makes it run lean but from what I have heard from the company that put it in the Air/Fuel mix was ok.
Perhaps, "melt" was a bad word, but all that engine has to do is lean out and your engine will be toast. Lack of fuel makes the engine much hotter. Next thing your getting headwork, valves and pistons. If that happens you will wish that you had just changed out the fuel pump.
I understand that your a/f is fine now, but if you run the car on a cold night, you will get more boost, but will you get more fuel? Probably not. Now you have a lean condition and you are on your way to detonation.
My simple answer to your question is, don't do it. That's just my $.02. If I'm wrong, you spend money on a fuel pump sooner than you wanted to. If I'm right you do major engine work. It's your choice.
