Hi all. I've been surfing this site for a while but this is my first post. I'm triing to change the fuel pump on a 98 qx4 but have ran into a snag. I got the back seat out of the way, the cover off the sending unit and the sending unit unbolted but the pump will not move from the bottom of the tank. I couldn't see anything holding it in place. I tried taking the hoses off the sending unit to make more room so I could see what was going on but one of them (with the black clip) is stuck on and I have no idea how to get it off. I don't want to break anything and I'm not in any rush as this is our back up car, so I figured I would ask around to see if anyone knows anything about that clip or what is keeping the pump in place. Thanks all.

Oh, I tried using the search feature as I always do but it doesn't seem to be working today.

Not sure on this model but usually there is a plastic ring that needs to unscrewed if you believe everything is unbolted and such it may simply be "stuck" due to age. I would be careful not to pry between the two mating surfaces. I would pull and wiggle or attempt to slightly rotate

Yeah, it held in there with something. I wont have much time to work on it tonight but I'll try to see if I can find a plastic ring or something holding it in its place.
Do you know anything about that fuel line I mentioned? I've seen my fair share of connections but never one like this. I got the line with the brown connection off as I am familiar with that type but this one I can't seem to figure out. This job would be easier with the sending unit out of the way, at least I would be able to see whats holding the pump in place.

OK, I figured out the other line. There are two tab looking things on either side of the connection. It looks like they are meant to be pushed in but they are not. You actually need to use a small screwdriver to gently pry them out from the top of the tab. Once you get the tabs pulled out of the line you can pull the line off the sending unit. This might have to be done but in my case I couldn't get my arm in the tank and move around like I need to.
Once I could see into the tank there is a large casing the pump sits in and the case will lift free of the tank. There is a clamp towards the passenger side that holds the case in its place, you can pry up from that point with your bare hand and the case will pop out of it. This might not need to be done either but I couldn't see how the pump was help in place.
As far as getting the pump out of the case, well, I still haven't gotten that far. I played with it for a minute but couldn't get it. It looks like it pulls right out as I didn't see anything holding it in. I'll update as I go. Thanks.
