It is about a 2 hour job. Not much different from replacing a fuel pump on a Ford van.
You have to remove the back seat, and the parcel shelf (it is best to pup the tabs up from the trunk rather than prying at them from the top), remove the panels in the trunk, and place a couple towels on the trunk floor. You pull the FP fuse, and let the car run out of gas with the gas cap removed. Then disconnect the battery, and disconnect the fuel lines at the fuel filter in the engine bay first (you need to replace the fuel filter along with the pump).
Once the pressure is relieved, disconnect the fuel lines in the trunk, remove the 8 or so bolts holding the sending unit/pump in the tank, then carefully remove it without bending the float arm. Be sure to note the way it is removed, maybe even mark the tank and pump assembly.
Take this time to look into the tank, for dirt or sediment. If there is any, cleaning of the tank may be required. (It is best to be nearly empty of gas before starting this process.)
Disassemble the pump assembly, replace the pump, then reassemble the pump/float assembly, and re-insert it in the tank using the new gasket supplied with the new pump. Be careful to reposition the float assembly and pump correctly, or the fuel level may read wrong.
Reconnect the lines, replace the filter, replace the fuse, reconnect the battery, and crank her over. It will take a while, since you ran the car out of gas. Just keep at it ant it will eventually restart. (If you are listening to the radio the whole time, you might want to have a battery charger handy, and you should be ashamed of not discinnecting the battery before working on your car).
Replace the rear shelf, seat, and trunk panels, and take her for a test drive.
There are great write-ups with pictures, jsut do a search for "Fuel Pump" Be sure to search the archives as well.
