Ok guys, any insight! I had the 96Q front brakes done today by my favorite independant FOREIGN car repair shop.71,000 miles on old brake pads,is that a record for a q?Factory pads always.I also had the humming fuel pump replaced, with 109676 miles on it! The techs inform me they did not have to remove back seats or deck, just the divider from back of trunk,is that possible? I thought you had to remove seats and deck?I did notice that it looked like they pryed passenger side rear speaker grill off the deck, could removing that speaker provide enough clearance to jockey the pump assembly through the speaker hole, resulting in a time saver we have not discussed before on this forum? By the way,I got the parts from JOE,and they charged 2 hours labor to do the pump, and 125.00 to do the front brakes,is that reasonable? I thought the brakes should be about one half that to turn rotors and replace the pads.

That's definitely a reasonable price on the pump, but geez, I don't know how they even got the speaker out. I thought the speaker bolted in from the top, and the only way to remove the screws was to remove the rear cover (after removing the rear seats). Maybe the '96 is different enough from the 1st gens to allow that. The $125 for the brakes...is that 2 hours? Not bad if they turned the rotors too.71,000 mi is unheard of (for me). Were you in the metal???

My brake pads (stock Infiniti stuff) have never gone more than 25k to 30k life as an estimate. Usually, I end up replacing them at about 20 to 25k just to be safe. I figure that I get this high a number because about 60 to 70 percent is highway miles.

In my 1991 Q, they lasted much less - usually between 13k to 18k miles or so - on the original pad formulation.

FWIW, I would not want pads to get to where I hear them squeal or see the red light in the dash go on!

No,not in the metal, but the rotors were warped, and worn enough that it made sense to replace while the rotors were machined.they quoted $60.00 to turn rotors, ripoff? and 1 hour to replace pads!last time NTW charged 60.00-one hour total to do labor with my pads, and they lasted 71000 miles!including turning the rotors! the pump replacement procedure they claim really puzzles me,even though I got the old pump back,so I know it was REALLY replaced,if you know what I mean!

Does your fuel gauge work OK? They may have bent things to get it done with less disassembly.

Cool...those guys definitely have a trick if they knew from the start they wouldn't damage the fuel sender. Yeah, the rotor turning was a rip-off, unless they ensured it was done to within spec, but an hour to replace pads and rotors sure isn't bad.
