I need to fit an aftermarket fuel pump for the VH41 and was wondering what you guys would reccomend and if I need to run a surge tank. The other question I had was do I need the Fuel Pump Control Module or can this be left diconnected/bypassed in the ECU?

the fuel computer can be bypassed completly no problem, for fuel pump you can go with the trusty old walbro 255 in tank, more than enough fuel for a vh.

No pics as yet except for mountains of wiring that I've had to sort through. All going well the 6 comes out this weekend and will be dropping the 8 in for alignment so the new mounts and driveshafts can be fabbed. will try get a shot or 2 and put them up for you.

Stock horsepower or a build up? For stock hp the Walbro is more than adequate and the Bosch 044 is overkill. The Bosch 044 is where I would look though if you plan on big hp.

For cost difference, I'd just put an 044 in. And since you have a Patrol I assume you are going offroad so definitely fit a surge tank. I used the factory pump (as I used Q45 fuel tank) to feed the surge tank and then had the Bosch 044 feeding from surge tank. Now the factory pump has died, (in spectacular form) I have a cheap lift pump feeding the surge tank and that is plenty. Surge tank is 3l and that is more than enough for mine so would probly run yours for a few hours!!!

Have you been following the threads on bearings? See quite a few of us are having issues so maybe something to think about as well.

Surge tank? I'm assuming its just an extra reservior close to the rail. Never heard of this on any motor. Is this just for crazy 800hp motors??

Nah a surge tank is typically in the boot (though you can run it anywhere), its purpose is simply to remain filled to the top with fuel so that under hard cornering conditions, there is never a loss of fuel supply to the main pump due to sloshing.

The pump in the actual tank just keeps the surge tank full, and when it's full it cycles back into the fuel tank.

And in my case deals with the crazy angles we get the truck on.

I've been watching this with interest. A bit scary considering I've gone the VH for better reliability than the TB42 (constant head issues). Fortunately the cut I got has very low K's (87,000) but I guess time will tell. The beauty of the VH is they are cheaper to replace than the TB42 and it's only the initial conversion expense that hurts. If it lets go, I should be able to pick up another for under a grand.

100kgs lighter and more power than a TB can't hurt either though!!!The handling difference going from the TD to the VH was pretty amazing. But you will need lighter front springs as well.As an idea, I run 135psi in my bumpstops where as the guys with TD's are running over 200psi!!!!
