I searched for threads and found lots of helpful information. however I have a question to clarify

I replaced the fuel pump about three weeks ago and the car was running fine then it quite on me again. The mechanic is telling me that the new fuel pump is completly toast again. I asked him about the control unit and he said that their is voltage coming out of the computer and relay to the pump but the pump wont start. Is this just a faulty pump? anything else I should have him check to make sure that the fpcu is good?

OEM new FP?

Read the FP post by Tangalora and you will see how to ground around it for temporary operation.

Have you inspected the FPCU?

Welcome to our club and thanks for searching before posting, using sentences and punctuation, etc. Legibility and well conceived questions always appreciated.

Thank you.

I have not inspected the FPCU however my mechanis has and he says it looks fine. I guess my question is has anyone ever heard of a faulty FPCU causng a new fuel pump to fail?

Well yes, if the FPCU fails then the FP won't run. But the FPCU won't kill it.

Answers to other questions, please?

OEM new fuel pump.

Talked with the mechanic again and the FPCU has power out to the fuel pump however the fuel pump wont go. It looks as though I ended up with a faulty pump out of the box. Anyone have any input to change this conclusion?

Thanks for all the help

Enough water in the ethanol can cause failure [corrosion] eventually.

Unfortunately without samples of each and every fill up hard to prove what MIGHT happen in the future.

"my mechanis has and he says it looks fine""Talked with the mechanic again and the FPCU has power out to the fuel pump"

The FPCU DOES NOT supply power to the fuel pump it only acts as a variable ground. +12V is direct from relay to pump.

MECHANICS may be less than stellar when it comes to electronics, try finding a real certified Automotive engineering TECHNICAN to deal with electronic problems!

Michael- Sometimes it's not possible to change mechanics or find an Infiniti trained tech but you can help both of you out by looking up this post and bringing a copy of it to your mechanic. For the few times that I have had my Q in the shop this is what I have done.

Tangalora wrote this post with detailed instructions and photos on how to ground the FPCU for continuous operation. If after grounding the FPCU you still don't have fuel pump power (doubtful) then you should swap in a new pump. Good luck.
