Hey guys, I have a year old fuel pump that I replaced myself. Lately, I noticed a noise like tssssssssss.... from the back seat (I think its the fuel pump) that lasts for about 10-20 secs. It happens only when the engine is cold. Also, I noticed that nothing comes out from the exhaust for 20-30 secs when I start the car (when the engine is cold), which seems somewhat weird to me.

Any suggestions or recommedations would be greatly appreciated, Andre.

Just noticed I sould hear a slight hum from my Austin 1995 Q45 until fuel line is pressurized. I will be paying very close attention as I am only at 61K.

Only at 61k AND .......10 YEARS.....way passed the life on many rubber components.

Changing out pumps without cleaning the tank, lines and rails is a good way to the change the pump again soon.

Yep, fuel tank is coming out when I do mine. Don't want to replace the fuel pump more often than I must.__________________Brian1995 Q45 & Q45t & 2000 Q45

Both of my 1995 Q45 are daily drivers, so they are no beauty queens, except the interiors are fairly good. My wife's 2000 Q45 is the striking one.

Meanwhile....back at the original topic of theis thread, is compressed air sufficient to clean the fuel lines? And does removing the tank necessitate replacing couplers or fuel line connectors from underneath?

Anyone done this besides Q45tech?__________________Brian1995 Q45 & Q45t & 2000 Q45

QSHIP is currently replacing the lines underneath his car, he developed a leak from one of the 3 lines that run into the tank, if you live in a high salt area I would check them out.

Drat, no salt in either of my main locations. I bet he is not removing the tank, either.__________________Brian1995 Q45 & Q45t & 2000 Q45

Yep, I changed my fuel pump 2 weeks ago and it's as quiet as can be. I still have to change the fuel filter. I've only driven it about 30 miles with the new pump because it's been in the shop to have the suspension work done. I just got it back yesterday. I will report on how that came out as soon as I get the 4 wheel alignment.

Brain -- mine is starting to buzz at start up and noticable when the tank is empty . . . it won't be long till I pull it. Not sure about the pulling the tank though. I need to drain it down and take a look. I recently had several injectors out and they were very clean. I am always skiddish pulling fuel parts.

Steve -- I'll catch up after the 1st when I return and we can compare notes. Mine only sounds on intial prime, and I think WOT. Anyway, I will do it before it gets driven next fall. Tank too, per Q45tech's experience. Better do it correctly the first time than do it again sooner than need be.__________________Brian1995 Q45 & Q45t & 2000 Q45
