allways smell gas in trunk since i had my fuel pump changed. and had no more pssst sound when i open gas cap. today i opend pump and i saw that o ring was just a bit oversized so i cut it to fit. i know i should not have but i was planing to lay a beed of gasket sealer so i did not think it would make that big of a difference. so i put sealer in put it all back together. no more gas smell and i have my nice psssst sound back. i thought i did a realy good job this is were it could all go wrong, i read the back of sealer that i uesd and it says "not recommended for ues on head gaskets or parts in contact with gas". the stuff is (permatex ultra gray sensor safe rtv silicone gasket maker). my ? is will this stuff break down becouse it is in contact with gas or what. please any info would be great.

Probably, if gas actually does come into contact with it. O-rings and gaskets that come in contact with fuel are chemically treated to prevent them from breaking down. If gas actually does come into contact with your gasket maker, it will probably over time break it down. I would only use that as a temporary fix and order the proper new tank seal from Nissan. They aren't that much, and I believe the part number is somewhere in the Walbro Pump Install writeup.
