My fuel pump started making some noise about a month ago, so I replaced it this evening. A few notes from the install:

1. There are a couple of screws behind the armrest that have to be removed to get the seatback off. They are behind the leather cover that extends when the armrest is lowered and covers the hole in the middle of the seatback. It is velcroed in place and pops right off.

2 One you have removed the 4 screws at the bottom and the 2 behind the armrest, the seatback lifts up for removal.

3. The rear deck cover is held in place by white plastic trim fastners that require pushing the deck cover up to pop them loose. The third brake light can just be pulled toward you to remove it.

4. The nuts on the fuel feed/return lines flares are 19mm. I didn't have a 19mm banjo wrench (which is usually advisable on flare fittings), but they weren't that tight, and an open-ended wrench worked fine.

5. Due to its length and the limited space to work in, probably the hardest part of the job is wiggling the pump assembly in and out of the tank.

6. Make sure you don't forget to replace the bottom part of the tray in the rear deck before putting the rear deck cover and backseat back in. Finding it in the front seat when you think you're done is very annoying.

All in all, it is a pretty simple job. It took me right at an hour to do, even with having to take the rear seat/deck cover out twice because of #6. Definitely doable at home, even for people without lot of experience working on cars. Just remember to remove the negative terminal from the battery since sparks and gasoline are not a good combination (unless it occurs in the combustion chamber).

That's hilarious!!! Glad to hear someone else thought this was a good DIY job.

Step 6 got me too! It took me about 2.5 hours altogether. I couldn't find the two screws behind the armrest until I was rescued by NICO!

Excuse my ignorance - do you remove the bench first and then the back?
