Fuel Pump Hesitation

Discussion of Infiniti's amazing (and underrated) sport-luxury crossovers, the EX35 and EX37. For 2014, the EX series will be renamed QX50, in line with Ininfiit's new naming conventions.

Hey All...hope it's happy motoring. My EX had it's fuel pump replaced last Friday, part of the recall/TSB that is going on....I never had the noise others experienced, but it is part of their recall program.

Now, the car hesitates whenever I give it throttle...slightly, but definitely noticable. Never had that before as the car was always wonderfully responsive to putting the pedal down.

Anyone else have that issue after the replacement?

I'm not too worried...my dealer is fantastic and has a great service dept....I just got to take it back and tell them what am noticing....but wondering if there are some adjustments that are getting missed coming out of the TSB>>>

Anyone else?

Thanks for your heads up. I am about to schedule my oil change and the fuel pump recall. I will start paying attention from now to after the replacement.

I had the fuel pump on my EX replaced because of the noise at start-up a while ago.

I brought my EX into the dealer today for service and they gave me an EX loaner.

The loaner DOES make the noise at start-up and I do notice it is more responsive when I give it gas. It doesn't have the slight hessitation my EX with the replaced fuel pump does. The rep said there is another fuel pump recall? Maybe she was confused as I said I had it replaced already but she said they would check to make sure the "correct fuel pump" is installed. I should be picking my car up this-afternoon and post any feedback I get.

Right, well bizarrely enough, I have now had my fuel pump replaced TWICE, but I didn't ask for it to be done either time, I never heard a noise the first time, and to be honest haven't noticed any differences between any of the fuel pumps I've had.

It was initially replaced over the summer, I just took it in for its first oil change, and they said while they had it, they replaced the pump. Just because.

I just got it back today from having a few things done, and they said there was a recall out, and it was replaced. I told them it had already been done, but they said well the number on the pump was one that was down for being replaced, so we did it.

What I will say though, a few weeks ago I noticed some hesitation around 40mph, if i was just cruising along, foot barely on the gas, if I put my foot down a bit, there was a moments hesitation, and the revs actually dropped for a split second, before it would then accelerate. Didn't do it all the time, maybe once a day, or once every 2 days. I mentioned this to them when I took it in for service, they ran tests but couldn't find a problem. I wonder if it was related.

We've had our EX for just over a year. Had the "humming" fuel pump and was replaced about 3 months ago during a normal service routine. Now after the pump replacement the car has completely stalled out twice, once leaving my wife stranded on the side of the road for an hour. Had to get it towed to the dealer.

I had to drive out to get my wife (let's not talk about the horrible road-side assistance, that is another story) I tried starting it multiple times where it would idle extremely rough then would stall. Each time the exhaust smelled of raw fuel.

The car sat overnight at the dealer and when they got around to servicing it... the car started right up and threw no codes (no history codes either) Hell, my 02' Z06 will throw tons of codes when there's a problem with anything (down to individual injectors for that matter)! Extremely frustrating. Anyone have this problem?

Anyway, my wife loves this car but after this (2nd) experience... she said she wanted her Lexus back. I hope Infiniti pulls through and resolves this issue.

Just got a call from the service department. The problem was with the fuel pump. This is the second fuel pump replacement (and hopefully the last).

I hope no one else has this problem... nothing worse than having your call stall at 70mph in the fast lane!
