I did the search long ago & found the write up on replacing the Q fuel pump. But no one wrote about the "magic" way the pump unit goes back into the tank. Everything is out & I swapped the pump itself. Now the whole thing won't fit back into the tank. No matter what I do it sits 4-6 inches out of the tank. I try twisting (which is not good for it) I have lifted it out & put it back in too many times to list! It won't go in. What is the "magic" way in which the unti goes back into the tank??????????? I have been at it for 20-30 minutes already. Some part of the pump unit is hitting the bottom of the tank and it won't sit in it properly!! Any help would be appreciated. Now I go back to it. 11:02 am pacific time.MarkMy number in case someone can help ASAP 702 499-0588

There is a "can" in the center of the tank, that the pump ists down inside. It is there to help when you are low on fuel.

Maybe you are not getting the pick-up in the "can", or the float is catching on something.

I don't recall any troubles, but I might have been lucky.

Did you take out the rear deck so you can drop the pump straight down? If you are trying to twist it in from the trunk you will ruin the new pump.

Well I found the problem. I had the siphen tube/filter mounted to far down on the pump. It was hitting the bottom of the tank. All fixed & running now. I even got to my buddy's Q and changed his fuel pump & fule pump control unit today as well. I chenged my fuel pump (my car only has 85,000 miles on it) BEFORE it went bad so that I don't burn out the control unit & have to replace it. $235 for the fuel pump isn't too bad. All work now finished & I feel b etter about the Q now. Thanks for the help guys.Mark
