I'm swapping in a KA24DE into my 84 nissan truck. I'm trying to figure out how i should do the fuel system for it. The truck has a plain old electric fuel pump that is fine for the carburated Z24 but the fuel injected KA needs more pump. I think a walbro 255 would be too much for the stock fpr on the ka. I was thinking just a stock 240sx pump? also i didn't know if I should put the pump in the tank or keep it in the stock pump location. Would it effect the pressure or anything since the 240sx pump is usually in tank?

i dont know much about the truck, but the 240sx needs a lot more pressure than your carb'd truck. the carb gets less than 10 psi, and the 240 needs around 40 at idle i think. i have ran a walbro 255 with the stock fpr before and no problems. but im sure you can get a stock 240 pump much cheaper. also you will need a fuel return line going to your tank. and if you run it inline you will need a special inline pump. obviously not a intank pump.

I was running a 255 on stock KADE in my S13 for a few years, no real issues, maybe just a touch rich (but that would have been due to lack of EGR, etc). I'd just go with the Walbro 255, just incase you want to add some 'air' to the engine later.

well, i'm not gonna turbo it. The only KA swap write-up in this type of truck that i found used a 255 amd mounted it inline in the factory location. He also turbocharged it. I am doing a stock KA24de. I was talking to a few of my friends about this and one said that if I mount the in-tank pump, like the walbro 255 or a stock s13 pump, outside the tank, it might not syphen the fuel right because he thinks its more of a pushing type pump since it is usually submerged. My other friend said it might overheat since once again it is usually submerged. I found another rightup that was poorly written from a different forum and it said something about using the stock truck pump and putting a small fuel tank in the engine compartment. Then running a line to a external high pressure pump from a '81200sx that feeds the fuel rail. I don't really mant a tank of fuel sitting in my engine compartment. By the way, I ran a walbro 255 in my s13 on a stock fpr and it took it out twice. I have a stock pump in it now.

I'm thinking either find an external pump that will give the pressure that I need or take the tank out and mount a s13 pump in it and make some baffles around it.

Suggestions or comments?

just get a stock pump for something that is fuel injected then. im sure an s13 or s14 pump would work fine. if you not going to turbo it then there is no need for the extra flow.

For anybody that cares, I think I figured out the best way to go about getting a fuel pump in a 720 for a fuel injected engine swap. In 86, which was the last year of the 720, nissan offered a TBI Z24. They continued with that engine in the D21(aka hardbody) until they started using the KA24e. Anyways, the fuel tank in my 84 is the same as the one they put in the 86, according to the part number that I have used to cross reference. The fuel pump assembly in the 86 TBI, which is in tank like the 240sx and most cars now, is the same that is in the d21 from 87 thru 91. So theoretically, I just need to get a fuel pump assembly from a d21 from a salvage with the wiring, drop the tank out of my truck, pull off a plate, and drop that puppy in. Then i'll wire that b**** in and away it shall go. I haven't got much done on the truck since I bought it but hopefully it'll be done before it gets to cold to work on it.

I have a better solution...

get an external replacement pump for a fuel injected 1986.5 Nissan 720, connect the wires and hoses, and you're done. You won't have to drop the tank and replace the carb pickup assembly with an electric pump.

I just did this with my 1985 720 4x4 with a 1994 KA24E swap using MegaSquirt. Works like a champ, and just over $100 at your local AutoZone for the pump.

I can get pics if you want. Check out my post in the 720 forum here on NICO.
