Hey everyone, i'm still new to the whole SR world, but i've got the swap done and have a few bugs to work out. any info would be outstanding. For some reason i'm running sooo rich that it is choking out the motor. i used a half a tank up in 60 miles. i've checked the fuel pres. reg. and and the spark plugsand they're fine. it sounds like it wants to run but then changes it's mind and wants to die. lots of black smoke. any ideas?? thanks in advance.

check your MAFS and oxygen sensor, thermostat, and a few other temp or air things. If the oxygen sensor or thermo is goin bad, your engine could be running in closed loop (warmup a/f mixture).

Worst case scenario, the ecu is screwwed and sending in too much fuel. ALSO you might want to check your injectors. Sometimes they can get stuck in the OPEN position and just sit there and dump in fuel.

the funny part of it is, it ran for a day, granted it was rich all day, then, booom, so rich it wont run. out of nowhere. if i got an ignition system, would it help?

ignition cant burn all the fuel if there is no extra air in there to burn it with.

Is your intercooler piping hooked up good and tight? My friend and I were out cruising in his Z31 Turbo, he took off hard from a light, we heard a pop, pulled over to look at it, couldn't find anything, towed it back to his house, got under it, and one of the pipes had come loose and it was causing him to run so rich that his car wouldn't run.

If it's not that, I'd say start with the MAFS and work your way in.

well, my i/c piping has some loose before, my whole car just cut off. however, it could be. i would probably bet on it being the MAF. sometimes they're bad....possibly the injectors also?

I doubt it's the injectors. If I had to guess, my votes would be for the MAFS or intercooler piping. For some reason, the car is metering more air than it's actually getting, and making up for it by adding extra fuel.

Out of curiosity, do you use a wet intake kit? Like a K&N with the oil junk on it? I've heard that the oil can damage MAFS, or at least make them go bad faster, so you might want to look into that.
