So I got this cool turbo kit for 200 bucks, but I am told I need a FMU, or a rising rate regulator. I was looking through the stuff and found a Bosch Fuel Pressure Regulator with boost reference Part # 2222, My question is what is this part? I dont have any paperwork and bosch Ironicly cant find this part, go figure. I understand that I need a 10:1 ratio, but I wont put a part on the car if I dont know what it does, Can anyone help with this ?I dont want to risk lossing my engine. If you need pics just ask, I am new to the turbo world, so forgive me if I sound like an idiot. Thanks for any help.

When i was running my T3 at 6-7 psi, i had an 8:1 OBX FMU. It worked great ecept for that i was running way too rich, like, stop at a light and you can't see behind you from all your black exhaust smoke rich. I think for 7psi or under you should use a 6:1 fmu.

Wait... first off, how did you get a turbo kit for $200?

More importantly, since I already have mine, I didn't think I needed to upgrade my FPR from stock if only running 7 pounds.

I just caught a good deal, I dont know why this guy sold it so cheap, but I wasnt complaining. It came with the manifold, t28 turbo, bov, sidemount intercooler, piping, injectors, and this press. reg. Not a bad deal.

Not a bad deal at all.

So do we need a fuel pressure reg to run 7 pounds and not blow up?

As far as I know, I am new to the turbo world, what I have read and researched, and asked about has led me to this:for fuel you can run at your own risk an FMU (fuel managment Unit aka: Rising Rate Regulator) at a safe level of 10:1 that is a rise in pressure of 10 psi of fuel to every one pound of boost. This can once again be ran at your own risk on the Stock ECU. Also you will need to change your injectors, I am still contemplating that as I write this, so I will keep you guys informed as best as I know. Which once again isnt much.

Good Luck with you project !

Yeah, I've got injectors, fuel pump, and SAFC, but that's it for fuel management. Do I need an upgraded FPR?

What size injectors? What kind of turbo? What is your whp goal for 7lbs of boost?

If you search, you will find the answer.

FMU's are used to push you injectors further than they support so you don't blow up.

To really know what is safe in your case... you need to get a wideband & tune / dyno tune.

There has been exact discussion about this stuff w/ mathematical formulas and all somewhere recently....

Yes, I have searched, but didn't find exactly what I was looking for.

T3/T4 .50 .63, 370cc, fuel pump, SAFC II and shooting for about 240-250 to the wheels.

Hey bro, you should get a smaller turbo if your only going for 250, the t4 will take forever to start to boost and then you will be barley using it. From what I have read on NICO the t-4 will produce some where between 285-300+, you may want to consider a t-25 / t-28. Smaller lighter weight, less expensive, and will boot sooner. Most posts I have read on the t-25 ball bearing, were around 250-280 horses. Just a thought. As for your setup, I cant give You much advise, as I am using a T-28 at 7psi with no ECU. It will be installed in 1 month. I need more funding. But I will keep NICO posted on the develpment. GOOD LUCK.

Check out Vortec. they have an FMU 10:1 for around $170. If you have any doubt about your setup I would get one. Beter to be safe than sorry.

also remember running rich isnt all that great either.... too much gas will clean all ur oil off ur cylinder walls...I would dyno tune.... and get a wide band.. and use that safc...

I blew one up before.....

A stock FPR + a high flow fuel pump will result in inconsistent fuel pressure. If your running a upgraded pump like you should be, you should also get an aftermarket FPR.

You only need a 8:1 RR FMU, 10:1 will cause you to run rich.

Superspeed, Mkory is not running a t4, hes running a t3/t4 hybrid. The turbo hes running is of the best entry turbos for our car, and probably the most widely used on successful setups. Its a t3 flange/exhaust turbine, with a t4 compressor wheel. Full boost by 3000 rpms on most applications, and the ability to run 450 hp. If you want the instant boost car, you go with that same turbo with a .48 ar housing and your still good till 400 hp.

my fpr crapped out on me right after i got my turbo installed. aeromotive fpr seems like a good choice since many people use it without any problem. make sure u have a fuel pressure gauge and wideband.
