How long does a tank of fuel last before it goes bad? After not driving my J30 often then followed by not driving it at all it has occured to me that the same fuel has been in the tank for 2+ months. It's probably sitting at a half tank right now. Anything I should do?

What does a 58 carbed engine have to do with a totally different modern all aluminum injected engine..........there is not one similiar part [shape yes]...........everything internal is made from a different material. Piston alloys, rings, cylinder wall, rods, crank, valves, valve seals, runners, even the throttle plate are of a different composition!Do an experiment put a pint in a gallon glass jug and store[protectively] it for a couple of months in the dark!

makeing varnish in our basement are we ?

not sure how long fuel stays "good" remeber getting old lawnmowers at sears (when i worked there) that didnt run , unbolt fuel bowl and let the feul run thru my hand untill it felt cold (rate of evaporation?) little did i know back them how much damage that stuff does to your skin over time

up here we have serious problems of condesation buildup due to too low a tank of fuel and such cold temps (-10 to-35 lately) price i pay for running below 1/2 tank

guess i didn't matter. started it up for the first time in over 3 weeks. battery was completely dead, but after charging it a few minutes she fired right up and didn't miss a beat. She choked for a split second but when perfect idle after that. Ummm..i love her. I guess the security system puts more of a drain then I thought. I do remember people disucussing in the past how the security system could drain the battery in about 2 weeks if it's never started.

I suggest, that on storing the car for extended periods, you keep the tank full to minimize moisture related problems.

There are excellent fuel stabilisers available at autoparts stores (Stabil is a good one) that when added , extende the storage life to at least 2 years.

When I store my Texas Q over the summer, it is with a full tank of gas with stabilizer, a fresh change of Mobil1 with filter, and a automatic charger on the battery. Oil does drain from the lifters, but starts perfectly after the 5 month summer sitting.
