Hey guys I am posting here cause I know the ka-t guys are technically the BEST. I got that 1989 coupe and am having issues with one of the injectors. It is spraying constantly. I picked a set of injectors and am gonna replace. I am just curious if injector spraying constantly is an injector problem or a ecu/wiring problem. Thanks for the help in advance.

If you have a stuck open injector, this is what you do:w/ your fuel rail off w/ injectors still on the rail, you can pinch the hose(assuming there's still some fuel in the hose) and if fuel squirt out of the 4pin holes then you have a stuck open injector. this will cause your car to run rich and have zero or very close to zero pressure. also w/ a stuck open injector you may have hard time starting up the car.

well I already have another set of injectors and this is not my dd actually this car isnt even registered. I was just curious if an injector CAN be stuck wide open. EDIT I reread your post and now understand it. I put the new ones in before I read this.

I put the new injectors in and the piece wont start. I have 0 fuel pressure now and am confused!!!! I am getting no fuel to the rail. I am pretty sure I am hearing the fuel pump cuttin on but no fuel. I even opened up a line to see and nada. WTF???

Sometimes the fuel filter can be clogged, check that. Also check your fuses and relays for the fuel pump to have proper operation.

Have you made sure your newly messed with fuel rail isnt leaking? What about your FPR, sure its good? If one of your injectors is still stuck open(or you have a bad leak) you wont see much fuel pressure from the pump priming.

Make sure your pump is getting fuel to the rail. Take the fuel feed line that goes to the fuel rail, and put the hose in a bottle. Prime the pump, and see if you have a flammable bottle.

ok removed the fuel filter and turned key to on. the line made a girgeling noise and a couple drops of gas came out cranked it and nada. I am thinking I need to replace the fuel pump. Dont wanna waste teh money on this and it not be that. I opened up front fuse box and the egi relay I believe that is the fuel pump one. When the key was turned to on it clicked. I assume that is good. I am kinda bumed cause I thought I would get this heap running well today seing how the car ran when I got it. Can a fuel pump go bad by sitting for 2 weeks?????? I dont know.

prime the pump huh, what is that fill the line with gas and then see.... hmmmmmmmmmmmm am I right? It was running just very rough cause the injector. I am not leaking cause I have NO pressure. Is priming when it first cuts on cause its not doing that. SO can I manually do it with a funnel and gas tank?

He means do this;

remove the fuel line from the IN side of the fuel rail. Place that line into a jug or bottle. Turn the key to acc mode. The pump should come on and start filling up the bottle. If it does, then you a problem with the FPR or injectors. If it doesn't then your problem is the fuel filter back to the pump, possibly power at the pump.

If the injectors are stuck open, you will have almost no fuel pressure causing it's getting dumped into your cylnder. Which is why you need to change your oil.

your fuel pump is probable bad. just because it makes a noise doesn't mean that its working right. open the cover to the fuel pump and pull the line that comes off the pump itself and turn the key on if you hear the pump run but no gas comes out then you need to get a meter and test for good voltage to the pump. if you have good voltage then the pump is bad and needs to be replaced. process of elimination.

+1 i think that pump is bad, if you can hear it prime then at least you should get a little fuel flowing out. double check everything and upgrade to after market fpr to compensate for the higher flow pump, if you havent already. If thats a new pump and you only had for 2weeks then go get your money back or exhange to a working one.

You can also do a hardwire that gives power directly from the battery to pump, this is a must if you plann on boosting high.

EDIT: Wait stop everything and make sure you have fuel in the fuel tank LOL..... GL

Ok I pulled the pump out and hooked it directly to the battery and it opperated well. I had it sitting on a chair and the pump turned on and the pump fell off of the chair. I am thinking it is a blown relay so I am gonna try and hardwire it to a switch and to the battery. Should I put a relay so I dont fry wires/switch or will they be fine for a fuel pump wiring.

got gas in there, That was my first thought.

Oh you tried the fool proof pump falling off the chair test, yea your pumps gotta be good.

What you should do is hardwire the pump with the fuel lines hooked up, its not hard to do. See if you have fuel to the rail then.

I am gonna but dont wanna do it with ghetto speaker wire. I am gonna get some from work tomarrow and try to wire it up.

The chair test... I was thinking if the pump had enough torque to throw itself off the chair it has enough to supply fuel.

Nah that really doesnt tell you anything but that the motor inside is spinning. You already knew that because you could hear it turn on.

Speaker wire is fine for your test man.
