Take it to T3! But if you must do it yourself, depressurize the fuel system, remove the gas cap, disconnect the wiring harness, remove the two Phillips screws, pry it out with a screwdriver. There are 3 you can do without removing the plenum, for the rest removing the injectors is the easy part.

Once the retaining cover is off of the injector, you must pull it out. I am not sure about prying with a screw driver. I had to use a large channel lock pliers with a cloth on its teeth. Tho top of the injector body is plastic and, like all plastic it hardens from the heat and cold under the hood. You may have to pull with an initially frightening amount of force for a small & old plastic piece. Once out, you can carefully cut the old O-rings off with a sharp razor -- you will find them flattened on the outer sealing edge. The new O-rings will slide on with a little oil to lube them up. Putting the injector back in is the easy part as it should slide straight in -- dont twist. Put the cap back on with the phillips screws and reconnect the harness lead.

Take the total rail out and work on the bench where you can change all the hoses. That way you can push the injectors up from the bottom while pulling from top. Soak o rings for a while in softener since you will be replacing everyone anyway.

I belive I have a fuel injector o-ring that is causing my fuel leak. I got the o-rings from Scottsdale Infiniti for all 8 injectors. Now I have to remove the fuel injectors. I'm not clear on reading the various threads on doing this but here is my take. 1. Unkook all electrical connectors to the FI 2. Release the connectors of the back fuel hose(s) (I know there is 1 not sure if there is another one attached to driver side fuel rail).3. undo the bolts holding down the fuel rail.

Am I right so far? Will the FI release when the fuel rail is lifted or is it pretty much stuck to the FI and FI are stuck into the bowl?

Please correct me or fill me in on the procedure/

Thanks all

The FI is squeezed into the rail pretty snug. If you're going to remove the rail first, you can push out the injectors from the bottom. You can raise the rail and turn the key to "ON" to pressurize it and see which one is leaking if any. Before you remove any injectors don't forget to release fuel pressure in the rail first. Open the gas cap. Start the car then pull the fuel pump fuse. Crank a couple times more.

Well I got the fuel rail out. Tried to remove the top screws to some of the injectors. Some about stripped, 1 or 2 are stripped. Tried to remove the injector that was leaking. Used cloth in pliers to try to pull the FI free. Would not budge, ending up breaking the plastic electrical connector. Got to call Joe and get a new one.Since this FI was busted I pushed it from the bottom using a 1/4 extension bar, it came out easy.

I knocked off some of the little plastic tabs that are near the 4 holes on some of the FI. Are these important? Will anything fall loose if they are not there? Will the FI work correctly.

Thanks

:( Brian

I tried to take some pictures with my digital camera. Pictures did not show the detail necessary to show the problem. I will try again with different lighting.

If you're talking about the pintile tips that extend through the bottom of the rail in to the runners, then yes - that's a big problem. Hopefully Joe hasn't shipped yet, as they'll need to be replaced too.

I haven't ordered the new FI yet. I thought I would spend the weekend licking my wounds. That would be great if the pintile tips are sold separately. The pintile tips have four tiny flanges that extend over the bottom of the tip almost to the point of the four holes. I don't see how those flanges could be that important but Infinitis are sensitive to any small variance. Thanks

They are very important as they atomize the fuel. Had a cracked one that was causing a miss at idle, but worked OK otherwise over 1,500 RPM. The miss drove me crazy until I replaced the entire injector. You should as well.

Actually, I think the 1994+ used a "pintile-less" design, so the four holes sound like that style. Are you talking about the area that sticks out of the bottom of the fuel rail and actually sprays fuel into the runners? If so you're probably going to have to replace the entire injector assembly - I don't think the tips would be avalable separately.

Take a look at the attached bmp. I know this is not a FI for Q45 but used it for demonstration purposes only. If you look at the tip where the fuel comes at there is that plastic looking "collar" at the end. If you look closely there are tabs that extends over the edge of the metal. One of my FIs are missing all of the tabs. One or two FIs are missing 1 or more of the tabs. This part comes of easily and makes it easy to remove the small o-ring. This damage occurred from trying to remove the fuel rail from the back fuel hose. I had to finally cut the hose. This hose almost seemed welded to the fuel rail connector. So, for anyone that attempts to remove the fuel rail -- cut the fuel hose first

Thanks all for your help

Interesting... if it comes off easily, then maybe they're replaceable separately. I'd call Joe to see. The design is different than the 90-93.

I'd replace all 8 of them if they're available.
