While removing the intake/fuel rail from my junk 97 Q45 I discovered that I mangled a couple of fuel injectors. The fuel injector tip looks fine, but there are four plastic "fingers" that wrap around the metal tip of the fuel injector where the fuel is sprayed. On a couple, I broke some of these plastic fingers off. Clearly, they have a purpose so when I ask in the next sentence "Does this matter?" Don't get all silly on me.

So, does this matter? They seem awfully petite, will the fuel injector work with only two "fingers" intact?

If you're talking about the plastic cap on the end of the injector, that's called the pintle cap. I would find replacements - it probably has an impact on the spray pattern... like you said, I'm sure it has a purpose.

You may be able to get them from Joe, or one of the injector refurbishers like Deautchwerks.

Sending the fuel rails to Deatschwerks is the easy way out, if not the cheapest.

Then you will know their condition and performance.

The stealership makes you buy the whole injector to get the pintle cap but DeatschWerks sells them for a little more than $1/ea. and they ship in a standard envelope (41 cents postage). Give them a call, you'll see their ad pop up on the right side of your screen.

Instructions for installation are boil for 4 minutes and while they're still hot and pliable they'll pop right into the pintle groove without breaking.

Interesting, DeatschWerks wouldn't sell them to me unless I got the injector service. Although there should be other injector shops that will sell them. Probably just there to protect the injector tip from damage.

I got the impression that the 90-93 were not available separately from Infiniti - but that the later years were... could be wrong on that though. Another option would be to check with some of the eBay sellers. I searched under "Injector cap" and got several results.
