Nissan uses a special 3M fuel injector cleaning system. Basically it's a can of specialized cleaner that's connected directly to the fuel injectors. It does a few things the 'bottle' cannot:
- It's far more concentrated than anything you can buy off the shelf. It's used 100% and it's not mixed with gasoline. The engine actually runs off the cleaner.
- The cleaner only stays in contact with the injectors and other critical parts for a short period of time. As soon as the fuel tank is reconnected, the cleaner is flushed out. Therefore a much stronger solvent/cleaner can be used without fear of damage.
Messing with a vehicle's fuel system is NOT something the DIY'er should do at home. A qualified technician should do the work as they are familiar with the systems and how to safely work with them. This is what you are paying for when the shop does a 'professional' fuel system cleaning.
