Does anyone use fuel injector cleaner with their Rogue. If so, what do you recommend and how often...

The Nissan Rogue manual in section 9-4 recommends against use of any type of fuel additives.

My Rogue is getting ready to hit 50,000 miles and I'm starting to get a little hesitation when accelerating. I have always used regular Shell gasoline in my Rogue and have not used any fuel additives. My last fill up I used a bottle of STP fuel injector cleaner and my hesitation cleared right up.

Nissan does not recommend fuel injector cleaner for a couple of reasons:

1) It's usually not required. I put 150,000mi on my Altima 2.5s. Never used a drop of injector cleaner. I had zero issues, no hesitation, and good fuel economy.

2) On earlier Nissan's (80-90's), fuel injector cleaner (which can be very corrosive) would eat away at the insulating covering on the fuel injector solenoid/wiring. The injector would then fail.

How often did you do fast acceleration with you Rogue? I mean, full throttle?

When I enter highway, I did that about once every 1-2k kms with high rev and I never get hesitation with any of my car.

I'm pretty sure that if you always drive "granny style", you will get hesitation with the time...

Can't say for certain with Shell but I don't think any of the big petro companies sell gas without additives.

My Nissan dealer offers coupons on every service statement, and one that is always there is "10 bucks off fuel injector cleaning", which I think means Nissan performs an injector service rather than just dumping a bottle of crap into the gas tank. So if you ahve concerns about this, talk to you service dept. and perhpas get them to do a proper fuel system flush/cleaning. Advice is free from those guys, just ask their opinion.

Nissan uses a special 3M fuel injector cleaning system. Basically it's a can of specialized cleaner that's connected directly to the fuel injectors. It does a few things the 'bottle' cannot:

- It's far more concentrated than anything you can buy off the shelf. It's used 100% and it's not mixed with gasoline. The engine actually runs off the cleaner.

- The cleaner only stays in contact with the injectors and other critical parts for a short period of time. As soon as the fuel tank is reconnected, the cleaner is flushed out. Therefore a much stronger solvent/cleaner can be used without fear of damage.

Messing with a vehicle's fuel system is NOT something the DIY'er should do at home. A qualified technician should do the work as they are familiar with the systems and how to safely work with them. This is what you are paying for when the shop does a 'professional' fuel system cleaning.
