K, my current idea calls for me having no distributor, it's in the way. I like what the e-Manage has to offer, but I think that it's cost, on top of the cost of MSD parts to run a distributorless ignition system is much more expensive than getting a SDS EFI set-up.

So, since I never really like the SDS for some reason, is there a way to let the e-Manage run a magnetic P/U ignition system? Or if I have to run a SDS, is there a reletively easy way to get a base map in? I'm assuming the SDS can do boost control retard timing, and all that other good stuff, right?

Basically can anyone give me some insight as to my various options on running a fully programable ignition and fuel system while switching over to a distributorless ignition?

thanks

I'd go standalone, the e manage just isn't equipped to deal with stuff like that...

The E-manage can not. It only alters signals to the ECU to manipulate the ECU's outputs. It can not run an ignition on it's own.

You can always go with an Electromotive unit. They have one now with a lot of functionality and can be tuned through a laptop. I believe it has a very comprehensive datalogging system as well.

the e-manage has what I need as far as fuel comes, ****, even a S-AFC has what I need as far as fuel is concerned,

Problem is, I don't have the time to have downtime, I'm gonna be working 6 days a week once training is done. adding a stand-alone isn't really an option right now, that's why I like the e-Manage, it's plenty strong for my set-up. The only problem is the ignition BS, MSD is so ****ing expensive.

So, go with what i have, a LinkPlus standalone system, you can get them to make it direct plug and play for a little extra money, its simple to tune via a laptop, and supports either a distributor, coil packs, multi distributor, or whatever you want. If you want more information on it drop me an email. Plus, if you were really want to, I could wire it in for you seeing as I am pretty close to Seattle.

Perhaps you can forget about the distributor ignition for now then. A spark amplifier can provide the spark you will need. The E-Manage is a relatively small investment and if you decide to go the stand-alone route later, you can find plenty of buyers as the E-Manage is not application specific. Just another option to think about...

it's not that I need more spark, it's that the distributor is in the way...

and 95_240sx, I shot you an e-mail, that set-up sounds promising, basically, I don't care about spark power, I just need a crank fire ignition.

Link is a damn good system, lots of my friends in Australia use it on their Skylines. SDS is also a damn good system.

Just for my own piece of mind, why is the distributor in the way??

you'll find out soon enough...believe me, atleast by August next year :p Probably before then, I've got some other things I need to fix on my car first, but then the engine gets built up

I think I'm gonna take the hit and go with the Electromotive TEC-3, I've got their WinTEC software on my computer and I've played with it, I like it alot. They're expensive, though :(

For the cost the sds stinks. 8x8 table, poor ignition mapping (interpolates vs user true cell input) I would go haltech or microtech for the cost. If you can afford it tec3 or motec. though Power Fc is also an option. Or if your good at making boards, try out the megasquirt, and can drive CDI and sequential injection and is open source (free).

I have tuned a coupe SDS units, and just comes sub par when comparing to other systems in its price range.
