OK guys heres the problem. I disconnected my battery yesterday and drove down to the store and back. This mornin as i was going to work i noticed that i had gone 4 miles yesterday but only got 7 mpg. So i watched what i was getting as i drove to work. on the regular streets i got a max of 13 mpg. but when i hit the highway it went all the way up to 30 mpg. now usually the mpg meter will go back and forth from 22mpg to 26mpg but it takes a few miles for it to change. Today how ever it was jumping from 7 to 30 in only 2 miles. the mpg gauge i'm taking about is the average one. not the bar that moves back and forth. Any idea why i'm getting such low mpg all of a sudden? did reseting the ECU do that much of a difference?

It's based on an average, it will average out after a week+ of driving. Just drive like you normally would.

know it works off of an average, but when i reset the numbers every time i fuel up it has never jumped like this. Does the ECU just have to read it for a week to get it all figured out?

Pretty much. Every time that I have disconnected my battery, it just takes a week or so to get back to a true average based off more mileage.

Im not really sure of the technical reason for this happening, but I assure you that nothing is wrong with your car. This is normal.
