My fuel gauge moves up like a tachometer when i accelerate and drops all the way down, way past Empty when i let off the gas. What the hell is going on? Is a wire loose somewhere, ground loose? Anyone else ever had this problem?

The float may be broken in the fuel tank and the sloshing of the gas in the tank might be affecting its readings.

If it were just the motino of the gas, the effect would be the opposite of what you described.I would tend to believe that the float has come un mounted in the tank, or simply broken due to age.

Thank for the replies. I just got the car back from the body shop where it was getting some front end damage repaired. I didnt think they would have done it since they only worked on the front but I could be wrong. Ill check out the float.
