I have somewhat of a wierd problem with my fuel gauge, heres the story;

One night I headed into Madison to buy some R/C Car parts. I saw that my fuel gauge was low, so i decided to go fill up. $32 dollars later I was on my way to Madison. The drive was fine without any gauge or fuel problems. As I rolled into the R/C shop, I started to smell a faint trace of fuel. I just ignored it thinking that it was another car or maybe i spilled some. After buying my R/C parts and talking to the owner about his supra for 1 hour. I went to start my car i started to smell fuel very bad, then I looked down to my fuel gauge and I saw it dropping all the way to E. First thing that came to mind was confusion. I just filled up and now its empy?? So now its not been working for about 2 weeks. I went to go fill it up the other night cuz i figured i was low. After the pump shuts off when the tank is full i hear a splash of fuel on the ground. The splash was from the center of the tank near the upper part of the rear differential. Anyone have any ideas?? I understand i might have a hole, but why the failure of the fuel gauge? I swapped out different stepping motors for the gauge and none work so its not the gauge. Help ME!!

Update; Drove to the bank today and my cluster nor my seatbelt slider worked. Keep blowing the fuse for the meter. This is not cool

Pick up your carpet/cover in the trunk, remove the fuel pump cover, and look at the lines attached to the top of the tank cover. Are they leaking or anything? Is the O-ring under that cover in-tact and hasn't fallen in the fuel tank? (this happens a lot when installing a new pump)

Check around the fuel tank, if it isn't leaking up at the pump, then there is a hole in the tank or lines somewhere. Follow the fuel lines all the way back.

Yea, i checked the o-ring and it was in the tank. So i put some sealant around the ring and re-installaed it. So i dont smeel anymore fuel. As for the gauge, im just gonna have to get the time to check the wiring harness .

Does anyone have the potentiometer for the fuel gauge level??

I don't, but you'll have a good chance if there's a 240sx in a nearby junkyard.
