this morning when I started up my car for school I saw something weird. The fuel gauge in my car showed that I was way below the E. At first I thought either there was something wrong with the needle or the sensor was off but when I went after school to refill the gas to about half way as usual the meter was right where it was supposed to be. Has that ever happened to anyone before? Another thing that was weird was that outside it was really cold so I started the motor and it sounded like I had a different engine like a 3.5L engine but it was still the KA. Weird....

did the meter go back to normal before or after you refilled the tank?

that is strange. I am assuming it wasn't below the line when you left the car the night before. I mean my gauge goes WAY under E before I have to think about running out. I can drive like 80 miles past E. The gauge does use a bimetallic strip the expands and contracts at different rates according to temp to move the needle, maybe the fact it was really cold out messed it up, but I have never heard of that before.

edit: how many gallons did you put in it?

well the night before the gas meter was around half way between the E and the first notch. In the morning I start the car and found the car under the E so at first I thought I had a gas leak but I couldn't smell any gas and there was no liquid at the bottom so no leak. So I refilled it using $10 dollars which is about 6 gallons since gas is $1.91 for 89 octane -_-.

I had the same problem after I went turbo and swaped to a 300ZX TT fuel pump. This would happen sometimes for a few minutes and sometines a few days. So I cleaned the connector plug with electrical connection cleaner. Its located in the back by the fuel pump. I plugged it in back and forth a few times and also checked the float and made sure it wasn't binding up on anything in the tank. Now everything works perfect. Nick

i also had this problem, i alway thought it was a defective floater. i never did anything about it and just learned to read my gas gauge more carefully
