Fuel Gauge Off

My car was drifted at a event a week ago roughly. After a few runs the gas gauge read full when it had at most 3/4ths. It starts reading at 1/2 tank left. A friend of mine said most likely the baffel is hung up on something. I took a look thru the fsm no real help. I plan on removing the fuel cover/pump etc. Question is which way is the baffel/floater supposed to face..if I remove it completely? Starting to get a little annoying.

S14's fuel level indicators just suck... but check that the float is moving freely.
