A couple of months ago I noticed my fuel gauge dropping like a rock as I drove down the interstate. A few second later it started to go back up. It has done this a couple of times now on my '91 se coupe. This wouldn't be that big of a deal except my odo will stop running from time to time and I have no easy way to keep track of my miles to see when I need gas if the gauge kicks the bucket for good. Has anyone delt with a fuel gauge problem and could point me in a good starting point for fixing the gauge?

check the tank to make sure the float is till attached to it's mount on the side. A loose float could be your fuel gauge culprit.

Your Odometer problem is most likely a loose connector on the transmission.

What about if the fuel gauge stops just above a quarter tank and doesn't go any lower. Does that the the ball is to tight.
