After doing a quick u-turn earlier this afternoon, now my fuel gauge needle keeps going up and down whenever it wants to...anyone have any clues to what it might be?

btw I just found out that Nissan means "Made In Japan"!

after getting hit in the side of my 240 by a supra, my car did the same thing. I havn't fixed it yet, but there is a float in your gas tank, and it probably got messed up by the u turn. If im not mistakin the float device is part of the fuel pump, so you might just want to upgrade your fuel pump. Could be wrong though.

I just upgraded my fuel pump to a walbro 255 about 3 months ago. Might be the floater itself?

i dont know, i will be putting in a walbro 225 when my motor comes in, so maybe if will correct my problem. You could try? when you put in the fuel pump did you see the floater? or is it part of the pump... If it is, maybe you could get a new pump under warranty or somehting?

No the floater isn't part of the pump, but it is part of your fuel system assembly though...I might just have to go to the junk yard and get one from a wrecked 240.

Some of the older 240's (89-94) have a fuel tank baffle that seems to work itself loose after time. If it sounds like your fuel pump is flopping around the tank when the gas swooshes around in the tank it's probabaly a loose baffle. I have already ripped mine out. this could also be keeping the float in the tank in one place if loose.

Nope everything sounds fine. And this morning when I warmed it up and drove it...the fuel gauge needle was normal again. It's something I still have to look into though...thanks guys!
