I replaced my dead oem fuel pump with a Walbro 255 in my R32 gtst, and now the fuel gauge is fluctuating everytime it moves. The bar fell off, in fact the whole thing that holds the bar fell off and I just put everything back in it's spot. At first, nothing worked. Then, I ziptied the fuel bar holder and the gauge fluctuating. Any ideas?

I had to lightly sand mine to clean off the years of crap. Now it works great. I would take it out and submerge it to see for your self what it is doing. Just some ideas

So, take the assembly out and submerge it?

Okay maybe that was not a great idea. My thought behind this was to see if the float was not secure enough and moving around willy nilly. You could check the voltage coming from the sending unit in the tank and see if that is where your issue is coming from. It could be making contact but not good contact causing it to go up and down.

What does the sending unit look like? When I had the fuel pump assembly out the 5 times I did, I didn't seen anything but the float bar and fuel pump.

The float bar is part of the sender unit. If you look where the float moves up and down there will be a small circuit board with lines on it. The float moving up and down on this board is what gives you a level up front. If your float is not making constant contact it will fluxuate. Corrosion will also cause this. Fine steel wool or even a scotch pad will clean it up if it is corroded. I will see if I can find a picture on line if you need a visual

Oh okay. I see it now. There's a wire coil that looks like it's suppose to be wound up but, it's just flopping around loose. Is that suppose to be wound up or no?

I'm not sure on that. I would have to take mine out to look. Maybe some one has there's out?

I went to the local Junkyard (here in Florida), and found a 300zx. When I took out the fuel pump out it looked very similar, almost identical. The float bar is the same, only difference is the 300zx has an orange one. Anywho, I saw the fuel sender thing you're talking about and the copper wire coil thing was all wound up around the silver bar that holds the float bar. So, I am assuming that you were right about the fuel sender not making enough contact, causing it to fluctuate.

I have no idea how to go about fixing this. I might buy another assembly, (a new to me one, used). Or, go see this guy that my importer told about. They say he has fixed the gauge on other gts-ts before. Only problem is, he is four hours away. Hoping that the job won't take more than a day, I could just hang out in town over there.
