Hey everybody, I purchased my 2004 Nissan Maxima SE in late August at a dealership with 47,000 miles. Now I have about 49,000. I was wondering should I have the dealership change the fuel filter when I go for my first oil change in December. The previous owner kept this vehicle spotless, but I don't know about the fuel filter.Do the Maxima's require changing the fuel filter at 49-50,000 miles?

I don't have my manual handy but uhmm I think you're supposed to change it every 30-60k I "think"

It wouldn't hurt to change It.. It's really easy

*Pull the fuel pump fuse*Remove the remaining fuel pressure by cranking It over till It dies or you think You got most of the pressure out*pull the hoses, remember to have a rag handy for a little bit of gas spillage*pay attention to the old filters UP/DOWN and put new filter in the same way*reassemble, put the fuse back in, crank her up

oh and check for leaks..

My 98 leaked there once. It was wierd becauseit didn't leak when the engine ran. But on a cold dayit would leak while not running and you could see and smell the gason the driveway in the morning.

Gus my mechanic fixed it by changing the fuel filterand it has not leaked agian.

I know that procedure works for the 4th gens, but I'm not sure about the 6th gens.

Also, mine was a pain to get off. It hadn't been changed in 100k or so and it was on their good. We ended up cutting the hose.

Since y2k, the Maxima's no longer require a fuel filter change. It's no longer a maintenance item, and is part of the fuel pump assembly. You can, if you want, but it is an excercise in futility.

So the 5th gens and up don't have the fuel filter in the engine compartment like the 4th gens do?

I read on here that changing the screen filter on the fuel pump was not recommended and should be left alone unless the fuel pump was being replaced.
