I don't have service manual (going to buy one). Is it easy DIY work if I have no garage and limited tools?

Should filter be changed if the fuel rail flush is done?

Thanks!

The hardest part will be getting the fuel line off the filter ends. If there's enough slack, much easier just to cut them off. Rail flush is usually done past the filter, so it shouldn't affect it. Not a bad idea though, based on similar intervals.

I'm at 97K and the 90K service was done including filter. But since I'm gonna do a rail flush now I thought filter should be replaced as well. Based on what you're saying I don't have to do it now, right?

Unless I'm overlooking a reason to do so I wouldn't. If and when you replace the filter don't forget to bleed the pressure in the system first, and expect fuel to drain out anyway when you remove the lines.

I understand it is best to remove the fuse and start the engine to release pressure. Is this correct?

That's right... and then unscrew the gas cap, especially if the car is in the sun - this keeps pressure from building up!

Just to add to the fuel filter thread, on my 94q, having just done the job, it would have been MUCH easier if I had bought the hoses that connect to the filter, and just cut the old ones off. I think I could have done it in 25 minutes, instead of the hour and a half it took, mostly to figure out how to remove the hoses from the filter without damaging them.

Pull the third fuse down on the right bank of the fuse box, which is at your left knee. Start the engine and let it die. Mine died instantly. Then crank a few times to make sure the pressure is off.

If one of our techs takes more than 5 miutes to change a fuel filter he would get laughted out of the shop...........without replacing any hoses............just need the correct tools.

It's on top by passenger front fender. You can't miss it. Look for the fuel lines entering and exiting the filter.

http://www.nissan-techinfo.com/infiniti will allow you 24 hrs. of downloading for $20.00, including service manual and TSBs for your Q45. Priceless.

Dont doubt that the correct tools would help greatly. Is there such a thing as a hose puller? ...Something to wedge under the edge of the hose to use to push it off the filter neck instead of improvising would have helped a great deal.

In the absence of possessing such a tool, my advice and my intention the next time I do this is to simply by two new hoses and be done with it.

Do I dare ask what is the book time on changing a fuel filter :)

There are at least 15 different types of hose pullers for various size hoses......the trick is to lube the inside of hose with special secret ingredients so the next time it comes off easy! Special silicone hose lube.

When you get paid flat rate, every tool you buy must save you time to pay for it............why do you think the guys buy $25,000 to $40,000 in tools and $9,000 tool boxes to hold them.........takes 5-10 years to build up to this level.

The problem is the time to get the car into the stall, secure the filter from parts department, open hood change filter [90-96] [97+ requires a lift], close hood drive it out, fill in paper work etc.

You can't even change a bulb on a car in less than 30 minutes if that is the sole task.....unless you do it in the parking lot for free.

Why most filters are bundled with a 30k/60k service.
