Changed Q fuel filter, blew dry with air. It weighed 437 grams [0.96255 lbs] more than the averages of 5 new filters of same type...........almost 1 pound of gasoline dirt in 15,000 miles used 4815 pounds of gasoline..........99.99% pure doesn't seem to cut it.553 milligrams per average gallon.

Why did I think to change it, because I heard a slight hum 3 days in a row at start up. Changed filter the hum disaapeared as the pump no longer had to work so hard.

This is my third pump [last changed 222,100 miles~~32k ago - 2 years] and my 12th fuel filter obviously 30,000 miles doesn't cut it.

15,000 miles might be too long it you want to maximize the life of a new pump.

For the past 50,000 miles I've gotten into the habit of having mine changed every 10k thanks to Dennis. No fuel pump problems to speak of.

Nick :)

Great Info!

What else should be changed more frequently, besides oil, water, transmission fluid?

Obviously 2,3,4 filters in parallel would lower the work the pump has to do, but so far members are getting between 75k and 150k on the pumps before failure.

Bigger cases don't necessarily mean bigger filters.

I happen to own this POS boat...... it's ok to ride around in but to look at it...awful...

Anyway..... I use a Q gas filter on it...nothing but the best..

I do have a question for members..... where do you get the so called dental pick with the blunted ends to remove hoses like the ones that are on the fuel filter....

I have had someone do most of my work up until a couple of months ago....

now, I am doing most of it myself....thanks to all of you guys...

....and Heath...I know you will be checking in soon.... the A/C controller should be at your door Tuesday...

BTW... I have heard the hum only once....still on the original pump at 156k and 13 years..... of course...that statement was the kiss of death....

Interesting... a pound of dirt in that thing is a lot! I was amazed at how bad the filter looked out of my truck... I think it was the original at 105K. The gas that I could shake out of the bottom was brown and gritty. It stained the rag I was holding it in... I should get around to having those injectors flushed soon.

Might not have been all dirt in the real sense- but solids. Varnish, gum, and dirt. What ever 5 minutes of 80 psi air couldn't blow out in each direction.
