I'm pretty sure the doors need to be unlocked (when they're locked, so is the filler lid) and then you just press in on the rearward side of the door, and it should pop out.

make sure the passenger door is unlocked...drivers only will not release it. You can hear the latch moving when you press the unlock on the keyless entry.

Make sure you are pushing on the right hand side of the door, it swings that way, I had trouble with mine also and actually had to get the owners manual out at the first gas stop I made....crazy

sometimes the actuator can get stuck...if thats the case you'd have to take it to the dealer to get it replaced....try what everyone said...unlock the doors and you can push on the left side of the lid cause there is a little spring in there to pop it out...or just push on the right side...

My loaner M35x had this 2 days ago, I used the key to to get it open... works on a loaner, maybe not my own car however (besides they would have charged me $80 to return the car to a full tank if I didnt fill it up...

the funny part is the gas door lock was actually unlocked, the door was just stuck some how, and a little gently pry with a key got it unstuck and it seemed to work fine after that...

There is a method to open it from inside the trunk also.
