My 2010 Versa SL hatchback is 3 months old and has approx. 3000 miles . . . all of the sudden it's developed problems filling the fuel tank. The only difference I can attribute it to is summer temps?? At 2 different pumps in one station and at a completely different station this past weekend the nozzle kicked off 20 or so seconds after I began filling the tank. Fuel then poured out of the car drenching the side of the car . . . it happened multiple times . . . it's almost as if the tank is pressurized???

I gave up today after starting and stopping a dozen times or so and only getting 4 gallons in . . . I left the station with less than 1/2 tank on the gauge.

Any thoughts or suggestions would be appreciated! I'm going to call the dealer tomorrow . . . I'm due for my first oil change anyway.

Sorry . . . one more thing to add (I forgot this happened, but my mind was jogged by reading about others having similar problems) . . . sometime in the last week or so, the "Service Engine Soon" light went on . . . I thought it was because I'm close to the oil change mileage??

Luckily, the Versa (at least the ones we have - maybe it's different in 2010?) doesn't set the Check Engine light just to tell you to get an oil change. It does, however, check things in the fuel filler line area, as it's been known to come on if you don't have your fuel filler cap tightly closed.

That said, I can't say why you're having the fuel fill issues. At 3k miles, it's definitely something I'd bring tot he dealer in case it's a kinked filler line, clog going into the tank, etc. (And in over 3-1/2 years on the board, I don't remember the problem coming up before. "Congratulations" on coming up with a unique issue!)

ask your dealer about it. there are pressure relief hoses on the tank that sound like they aren't allowing the fuel in and the air out properly. If that happens it will make the air pressure block the fuel. No need to worry. It's not a major problem. Your dealer will take care of it under warranty.

As kc5f said, I'd suspect the fuel cap not being on as a check engine light source. They are touchy. Ask your dealer about it at your next service.

First oil change today at approx. 3100 miles (at the dealer) . . .

first off . . . started as a VERY annoying experience, my GF took the car in because I had to work and Thursday morning at the dealer is free manicure day . . . seriously, they have a lady there giving free manicures to the customers waiting for service.

The annoying part was that they insisted she sign a form stating that we would pay $120 diagnostic fee if the problem was not covered by the warranty. She was told not to worry, just sign it, we won't charge you!

Of course, she called me before signing and put the service advisor on the phone . . . he gave me the same spiel . . . just sign it, we probably won't charge you . . . I advised him that a 3 month old, brand new car with slightly over 3000 miles on it better be able to accept fuel and insisted that he put the service manager on the phone. He disappeared for a few minutes and came back telling my GF not to worry about it . . . she didn't have to sign that we might have to pay. He didn't need (want) to talk to me again! :rotfl

The solution . . . remove the spider/spiderweb/egg sack from the vent line that allows air to escape as fuel is being added.

I'd really like to know how it got there?? . . . I've only added fuel 15 +/- times since I've owned it and promptly reseal the system (make sure the cap clicks). I wonder if it had happened after I had owned the car longer if it would be considered a "non-warranty" problem???

You would think that a system designed to control (and keep) fumes frm getting out would prevent insects from getting in?? :wtf2:

End result, fueled up tonight with no problems at all . . . I'm still pissed about the service dept's attitude, may have to contact the saleslady and sales manager that sold me the car??

You probably picked up a pump that had a spider in it and pumped the whole family in there. I think that is the only logical explanation.

Sorry about your crap dealership experience, Spidey!
Glad you reminded them who the customer is.

One time had fillup that wouldn't fill above $5 or so.
The fuel itself was extremely bubbly, thus batch had too much detergent.
Happened only once, but still waiting on my first arachnid infestation! :lolling:
How was manicure?
I have nasty toenails from too much basketball so they need the love, Nissan style! :rotfl

I'm amazed that the spiders are alive since gasoline and its fume is toxic.

I can't believe you had spiders in there.

Considering the fact that your car is only a few months old, signing a form is unacceptable. Whatever problems you have should be fixed under warranty.

When my dealership didn't want to fix my sunroof, my dad made a fuss, spoke with the salesman who we deal with and then he spoke to the service manager. Needless to say, they fixed it for free.
