hi. Still love the Rogue with 2500 kms so far.

question about the Fuel economy indicator.

It is currently sitting at 13.6

When I idle it sits at 15.

1. Is it normal for this meter to show idling to be so inefficient?

2. I needed to wait for 4 hrs at -30 and left it idling for the heat the whole time. Is the indicator an average based on the life of the vehicle and therefore counting all the idle time?

I understand living in Canada I have a few things going against me for the best fuel efficiency getting a new car at this time of year.

Fuel additives, harsh cold, new engine being three of the inhibitors.

I'm getting abut 450-475 km per tank.

How normal is any of this?

Yes, leaving your car in parked and started will effect the Fuel economy meter.
That's why when you slow down to about 10MPH the Meter goes down.

When I slow to a stop the meter actually spikes to 15. Even rolling stops at a stop sign. Once I go below 10km/hr it spikes.

I think your unit is in L/100 km, meaning the amount of gas used in 100 km
So it is right that the higher the number is, the more fuel it used
I believe what TaiLuu is talking about is MPG which is miles per gallon it is opposite than yours (high = save fuel)

At idle you are going 0KM/H. Based on your speed of 0KM/H you would use an infinite number of litres to go 100KM. Therefore, your fuel meter is maxed out and you appear to be getting very poor fuel economy. And, indeed you are because you are not going anywhere.
Make sense?

I have no idea if idle time is including in counting on the fuel metre, however I know my vehicle had about 13.x L/100KM showing when I took possession and it's now down to 9.0L/100KM (with just city driving). Because of the low mileage on the vehicle when I took possession I suspect it does count idling time.

You can reset the fuel metre as well. I believe it's by pressing in the knob on the right while the fuel metre is displayed.

I have a FWD and my fuel metre sits at 9.0L/100KM pretty steady throughout it's life (took a bit to get it to 9.0 from where it was initially). During our week of -30 it went up to 9.1, but has come back down to 9.0. It has about 5000KM on it right now, and that's 100% city driving. When I fill up with gas it seems to roughly correspond to the 9.0 figure, so I think it's fairly close to being accurate.
