I have not encountered this problem before. What I've had was problem with opening the fuel lid, which is easily corrected by pushing in the leaf spring adjacent to the hinge.

The fuel lid opener shares a common 20A fuse with the trunk opener so there's no harm in checking the fuse. The fuel lid is controlled by the remote switch on the driver side console which controls the ground to the Fuel Lid Opener Relay (B114) which then enables power to the Fuel Lid Opener Relay (B119).

The Fuel Lid Opener Actuator is spring-loaded to extend position (lock) so if it is stuck in the retract position, the problem most probably is with the the actuator or related return spring. Try pulling the manual lid release handle accessible from the RH side of the trunk, while spraying WD-40 on the actuator. If that one doesn't work, then you have to remove the cover on the RH side of the trunk to access the actuator.
