ok so i got a 1990 240sx shell last week and it was fairly stripped ... even the gas tankwas gone. so i decided that since the car will eventualy be a turbo track car, i might as well just buy a fuel cell for the same price as a new gas tank, and i got a compitetion fuel filter as well ...well i am getting a stock ka24de(sohc) tommorow and i was wonering if yall had any idea how i can get the fuel from the cell to the motor without it being dangerous or haveing 50 different fittings and reducers in a line the fittings in the cell are #8 an what should i do any help is apreciated thanks

Have you gave any thought about how you're going to pump your fuel ? The stock fuel pump is inside the fuel cell. Aftermarket external fuel pumps cost a lot more than in tank pumps. In tank pumps are cooled by the surrounding fuel, so external pumps have to be much more heavy duty, and expensive to make up for this lack of cooling. I've got a fuel cell in my 240, with the stock fuel pump inside the fuel cell, there's several different ways to do it.

KA24E is a SOHC motor, not a DE.

yes, i was planning on getting an inline... the cost difference from stock($86) to the inline($130) isnt an issue. i would be interested in knowing how you did yours tho! i think the inline seems easier but, i really have no clue since as close as i get to fuel delivery is pumping gas. lol. however, on a good note, i got my motor(ka24d...thanks snowyred180 for the correction) as well as motor mounts, 5 speed trans with mount, radiator with a shroud and maf and all with a 30 day waranty for $330. tomorow im getting a speed sensor and ecu as well as a f.p.r. and drive shaft for $145 so im movin at a good pace parts wise. now just geeting it all in and running ....cant wait!!!

Those low priced inline pumps aren't know for their long lifes.

I've mounted my pump inside the tank 2 ways. I took the ring that the pump mounts to on the stock tank, cut it off the tank, cut a hole in the top of the fuel cell just large enough for the pump to go thru, put the mounting ring inside the cell, used the stock big o-ring to seal it and mounted the pump on the fuel cell, since I race this car circle track, I placed the pump in the right rear corner of the tank. Since my fuel cell wasn't as deep as the stock tank, I shortened the assembly that holds the pump inside the tank. I hooked the stock output and return line to the fuel pump using short lenghts of fuel injection rated hoses. I hooked the stock fuel vapor recirculation hose to the vent hose on the tank.

On another car I attached the fuel pump to the inside of the filler ring by making a bracket, then I drilled 2 holes in the top of the tank for the supply and return line, used fuel tank bulkhead fittings to get the fuel thru those two holes, and again used the vent hose for the vapor recirculation system.

I installed my stock pump assy in the fuel cell also in my stock car. But now I am installing a imca type fuel cell with the steel container. This type won't work now.So I'll be running an inline external pump. good ones are not cheap. I find the intank units are difficult to access when your in a rush while trying to line up for your race.

If any of you guys stock car racing on dirt or asphalt wanta share set up and engine info send a pm. looks like you all are far enough away to avoid any on track issues. but need to keep it from our local competitors that may be searching for info.

No , I have never used an external pump so it looks like I'll check out that one allong with a few others.

I thought there was a private message section to exchange off thread discussion, but I guess not. If any one wants to brain storm and share circle track info just email me : [email protected]
