Next-gen Subaru boxer 2.0L engine with direct injection.

the sound should be awesome!

also the power to weight ratio of this car, now that we know its small like an s2000, should be great!

i thought i read some where that subie wont be offering that engine in the US and they havent offered it here for awhile.

Im thinkin its gonna be the 2.5 liter engine with a possible turbo application?

i want this so bad, i hope its not expensive

should be less than a full equip altima 3.5SR and I don't think It's going to be the 2.5L even though they keep giving us the 2.5L everytime. it's because this is a new engine that's direct injected so I don't know if they will still want to make a new version of the 2.5L just for the US. if they do give us a 2.5L engine its going to be the old one I think.

either way, I prefer the new direct injected 2.0L engine

The Toyota FT-86 concept is the fruit of cooperation between Toyota Motor Company and Subaru, and as such will wear a common chassis and some degree of engine commonality, at the least a 2.0 liter, four cylinder boxer engine dubbed the "C-45 Boxer" and making between 200 and 250 HP will power the rear wheels through a manual six speed transmission, and get this — no hybrid system. Saints be praised.

found this one this websitehttp://jalopnik.com/5375233/to...-ae86

They also compare the size to a 370z.

subaru's version maybe will be awd. there's a big debate on NASIOC over whether or not the awd drivetrain can fit without having a huge front overhang on the subaru version of the car.

so this is the combination of the FT-HS I was talking about and the new toyobaru that you guys were talking about... mostr reviews note that they took most of the design cues from the FT-HS, but kept the idea of the subaru engine...

its not the same platform as the other car. its' the same design language. this one wont be hybrid and will be light and small. expect 0-60 in the mid 5s and handling like an s2000 or miata mx5.

trust me when I say that handling and power to weight ratio will be AWESOME. plus the subaru boxer engine was boosted well above 500hp in previous applications. this one will not disapoint. it's like a more practicall and CHEAPER s2000 that is 2+2.

since I've tasted what my bro's s2000 can do handling wise I'm more interested in magnetic handling and being on with the car on the road than brute acceleration. go drive an s2000 or a miata and take some corners, you'll understand what I mean

Is there a picture of the Suburu version?

I would think that front overhang wouldn't be an issue with a RWD biased AWD car.

The reason there would be more of an overhang on a traditional suburu is because it is a FWD biased AWD. Remember the front overhang is neededhere because the transmission/primary drive axle etc is in the engine bay and also the engine is mounted sideways- where as a RWD transmission is in the further back in the firewall/under the car. So it doesnt have as much "under the hood".

When I use the term FWD biased AWD car vs RWD Biased AWD car - I 'mreferring to where the primary powered axle resides and layout of the engine and transmission. A suburu outback or wrx etc are FWD biased AWD cars - The AWD G35/37 are RWD biased (no need for extra overhang to accomodate an AWD version).

All I've seen are the sketches for the Subaru version. Topgear.com said something about maybe seeing the Subaru version at Tokyo, but somehow I think that was written wishfully.

Toyota has revealed the Gazoo FT-86 G Sports concept car at the 2010 Tokyo Auto Salon. The G Sports conversion car series will be sold via Toyota dealers in Japan in 2010. The FT86 G is powered by a turbocharged boxer 4 with a 6-speed Toyota transmission.

TMC to Launch "G's" Sports Conversion Series

-Concept Car Debuts at Tokyo Auto Salon-

Tokyo-TOYOTA MOTOR CORPORATION (TMC) announces it plans to begin a gradual rollout in Japan in mid-2010 of its newly developed "G Sports"1 (G's) sports conversion car2 series. The series, to be sold through Toyota-brand dealers, is meant to offer to a wider range of people the "automotive seasoning" that TMC has pursued through its GAZOO Racing3 activities.

The G's series is designed for customers who strongly desire to own a unique vehicle, offering them a personalized interior and exterior design along with sports-driving performance. TMC has directly designed this sports conversion series, instead of the conventional approach of outsourcing development to a customization firm.

The base vehicle of the G's series is equipped with internal and external components that include sports suspension, aerodynamic parts and racing-style seats. A special focus has been placed on "driving seasoning" to make handling fun, through fine-tuning carried out by the GAZOO Racing test drivers who drove the Lexus "LF-A" in the 24 Hours Nürburgring race in Germany and developed the "iQ"-based "GAZOO Racing tuned by MN4" (GRMN).

TMC's aim is to bring that "driving seasoning" and the joy of automobiles to a wider range of customers by reducing production costs through partial inline customization5 and other measures.

TMC has been carrying out a diverse range of activities to broaden the joy and dreams that vehicles inspire, along with its ongoing efforts to use hybrid-vehicle and other technologies to address environmental issues.

In addition to the "FT-86 Concept" rear-wheel drive compact sports car and the Lexus "LFA" shown at the 2009 Tokyo Motor Show, plans call for TMC's sports model lineup to expand through the introduction of conversion models and sports-trim models of mass-produced vehicle series, such as the GRMN and G's series. Also check out this info about a cool new technology to debut in the FT-86!!

Quote: On display at the Toyota stand at this year's Tokyo Auto Salon will be the Toyota FT-86 G's Sports, which boasts an even sharper exterior and a world-first "GPS-track day" unit co-developed with the creators of the Gran Turismo franchise and automotive technology giant Denso. So what's so special about the unit, you ask? From what we've learned, you will be able to drive your real FT-86 around a real track -- the Nurburgring, for example -- and then remove the memory card from your car, plug it into your PS3 unit and either "watch" your lap virtually or race against yourself, as your real car appears as the "ghost car" that you battle against.

The GPS unit was tested in a fully race-prepped Lexus IS F at the Nurburgring last October. If you look closely at the FT-86's dashboard in previous press photos, you will see an outline of Fuji Speedway, a lap timer and an altimeter -- which hints at where Toyota is going with this technology.

Word from inside Toyota is that they plan to roll out the technology on "most" future models, with the first of course being the FT-86 in late 2012. Also, as has been previously reported, the Gran Turismo developers are also working on launching a 3D version of GT5 as soon as 3D TVs become available on the market. We've taken a quick demo spin of the 3D version, which looks fantastic in early builds. Of course, that assumes GT5 will ever be finished. Latest intel we have is late summer of this year at the earliest.
