IAC is on the intake manifold. Back corner towards the firewall on the driver's side. Royal pain to get to.

Code 25 - Idle Air Control Valve

You might want to first consider things that don't trigger a CEL light or generate a Code, especially if the IACV is so difficult to access.

the only thing that i know of that wouldnt trigger a CEL and cause my symptoms are a dirty MAF or a knock sensor and i cleaned the MAF and replaced the knock sensor....

KS is a Code 34, but with NO CEL and shouldn't make for a rough idle, but would affect shifting points.

A dirty to the point of causing problems MAF should trigger a Code 12 and the CEL?

Don't know about the others. Will try to check my FSM trouble-shooting section tonight for a fluctuating idle with NO Codes/CEL causes.

Possibly a vaccum leak/cracked vacuum hose? Check the engine timing? PCV valves? How does the car run otherwise?

The small trunk mounted FSM in a slipcase is a exactly the same as the big FSM. Try to find one.

From pages EF & EC-177 thru 182 of the FSM

Hunting1) check O2 sensors (by unplugging them)2) power balance test - disconnecting and reconnecting coil packs one at a time3) check spark plugs4) check for intake air leak5) check EGR valve

Unstable Idle1) check EGR valve2) power balance test3) injector test4) ignition spark test5) spark plugs inspection6) fuel pressure check7) heated O2 sensors8) air intake leak9) idle adjustment screw clogging10) compression11) ECM harness connector

Again, it would seem that some of these that would trigger a CEL or register a saved Code can be eliminated as a possibility.

I did, and was thinking about connecting things today and contacting you to see if you've used it to trouble-shoot/improve engine performance in any way.

Thanks, Gerry
