I while trolling around i read that the 90-97 pickups used the same 5 spd trans as the 240. Also from what i picked up the 4wd trucks had a lower gear set(of course). Question is has anyone looked into this, or used a truck trans? Saw something about the shifter maybe being in a different position? Just kicking the idea around, any thoughts are welcome

The 4wd trans has lower gears, and it might be possible to to swap some of them around. It is however, a wide ratio box, and usually people like to go for close ratio in performance applications.

By wide ratio do you mean the gear ratios are space further apart from each other? Sounds like it might be a little more hassle then it would be worth, unless your already rebuilding a transmission.

Not worth it at all. You're going to have bigger rpm drops between shifts taking you out of the power band. You could get a lower final drive from a Skyline or something, and I think that would have the effect that you are looking for.
