I just visited the Nissan dealership and was informed about the tire feathering on the car. I need to get new front tires now. I currently have the Bridgestone Potenza's on all 4. However, I don't need to replace the rear tires at this time. After doing a little research I have noticed quite a few bad reviews on the Potenzas. They are also $230 each on the front. I found a couple other tires that were similiar to the Potenzas but much cheaper and had better reviews. So thats my question, Can I put a different brand tire on the front while keeping the Potenzas on the back? And if so, what are some good replacement tires?

the potenza is considered a high performance street tire and assuming you're running stock sizes ( I looked up track model sizes) they are a bit cheaper than you got quoted at tire rack ($179 and $199), of course shipping will add to that, the BFG G-force T/A KDW's are summposed to be some really grippy street tires and they are priced at $156 and $164, seems like a decent price even with shipping, this assumes you want good dry traction, you didn't specify which potenza's and what your specific complaint was, and I assumed you meant the potenza REO40's which are stock and seem to be geared for more of a daily driver kind of tire

You should consider... Federal SS595!

Federal SS595 Tire Special

As I have mentioned before in previous posts, I don't really know a lot of the specifics on cars. I took down some info on the tires. They are the Bridgestone Potenza's RE040 225/45R18 - 91W.

However, I am a little confused now. I checked these exact tires about 2 weeks ago at tire rack and they said $230. I just looked at the site now and they are quoted at $179. But my main concern was if I can have a totally different brand and tire on just the front and keep the Potenzas I currently have on the rear. I know the treads will be different and im wondering with a performance car like the Z, will that be a problem?

daily driving? mostly no.

competition driving? you will feel a difference (especially if one tire is stickier than the other).

As long as you stay in the same range of type of tire you'll be fine (i.e. high performance summer tire, all season performance tire, etc etc etc).

You can run pretty much any summer tire and you won't feel any adverse effects from daily driving the Z.

Yes, you can keep the current rear tires on the rear and you'll be okay.

Don't buy a cheap tire for a quality high-power car.

The KDW is a good tire, but suffers from noise and wear issues. Having been in and around tires for my entire working life, I assure you any money put into a good set of 4 tires on your Z will open your eyes like nothing else.

Also, you should consider your goals and wants to determine your tire choice. Weight in on things in the list here:

My feelings on the origional RE040's on my Z were that they were over-priced for the grip and wear they gave me. I ahve since had BFG G-Force KD's (yeah, the super sticky dry ones), as well as being a test dummy for a set of Continental Contisport Contact 3's. BOth tires are good..but have different goals in mind.

I ended up running a set of ADVAN Sport's, which are kickass. Just as grippy as my KD's, low noise, good wet weather, and with 10k on them, good wear.

Anyways, what's your goal for the car, how you use it? budget? let me know and I can help steer you in the right direction..

you can also find my (albeit old) tire reviews and facts in the wheels/tires forums.

Ok, so I have no decided to probably just go ahead and get 4 new tires. With that said, I will probably be looking for an all-season tire vs. a summer tire due to tread wear. I want to be able to get a lot more than 15,000 miles on it. I would hope to at least double that but I know this is a sports car and I dont want to give up that much performance. I am also looking to not spend over $200 per tire. Does a tire like this exist that actually has really good reviews?

the Potenza RE960A S has a treadware warranty of 40k miles, be sure you document the milage at instalation, helps if you buy them and have them installed at an authorized Bridgestone dealer, tire rack lists them at 155 and 160 each
