My 1994 SE V6 4x4 is in need of a front end rebuild It has 160,000 mi. and runs great Anytime I drive around/over 55mph there is excessive shimmy and vibrations coming from the front suspension. I had the tires rotated and balanced and it made no difference. I figure the truck is good for another 100,000 so I would like to make it drive and ride like new. other than replacing the shocks and struts, what else would need to be replaced? Thanks to those that replied to my oil problem. I switched back to castor oil 5w30 and problem solved.

Bushings they have to be crap by now. i am about to do mine on 91 2wd. Energy suspension makes great urethane bushings that tighten up better then rubber stock crap. Not to expensive just install and alignment will get pricey. I already did leaf springs with ES Urethane and loved it. those were 45 bucks and 150 to install.

There are no struts in your front end.

Start with some good quality shocks. Rancho RS5188s work well, as to the KYB Gas A Justs.

Tension rod bushings would be next. That's the rear most suspension mount off the lower control arm.

Tierod ends and a new Centerlink probably wouldn't hurt either after that many miles.

All this is DIY worthy, though you will wnat to visit an alignment shop when you're done swapping out steering pieces.

Oceanpro, you should also make sure the front brake rotors aren't all warped, and if they are, you may be able to get them resurfaced if they're in spec, otherwise new ones. I think this should be high on the list.

I think that I will start with shocks and some poly bushings and maybe balljoints. I am budgeting $1,000.00 for parts and labor. I am hopeing to make it like new or better and still stay in budget. I could even do the simple things like installing shocks myself, but I will most likely pay a pro to do the rest as long as I can stay in budget.

I rebuilt my front end for around $700. I did all the labor myself using Moog and OEM parts. The only thing I was unable to do was align it, had to have my old employer do that.

It looks like the parts will cost about $640.00 plus $200.00 for shocks, and $150.00 for towing and alignment.the Labor quotes were $800 To 1.000. So it looks like I will be doing it myself. A friend of mine has rebuilt quite a few frontends and has offered to help me for a couple of halibut fishing trips. I think thats the best way to go. I am not sure why it would cost 800 to 1,000 for labor. How many hours did you have in the front end rebuild?
