New Member...Sup, people?!
Daily Driver: 1994 D21/Hardbody Pickup XE King Cab w/ long bed, 3.0L V6, 5 spd., 4x4 w/ auto front hubs...
Has anyone ever had to cut the brackets off the frame for the "tension rods" that bolt to the front lower control arms?
A friend of mine had a '90 (identical in every way to mine except the year) and said that one of his broke. He referred to them as "radius arms". I think Nissan calls them compression rods. Anyways, the shop he took his truck to said the brackets on the frame were rounded out and had to be replaced. He told me they cut the brackets off and fabricated their own or had stock replacements (somehow), made new rods, replaced the bushings, and put it all back together.
Is this typical?
I talked to the local 4x4 center and they said they'd never heard of this issue. You just replace the bushings and collars on the rod itself and that should be it. They didn't sound too reassuring, though. And, I'm a little hesitant to tear this all apart just to get stuck without transportation.
If you look at mine, it looks they're sagging. But, that might just be how they look when the bushings and collars are shot. I don't know. This is my first D21.
I bought the Energy Suspension bushing kit (part# 7.7106) tonight. It didn't have the washers/bushing cups in the picture...I guess I'll find out if they come with the kit in a day or so.
Any help or information on this would be GREATLY appreciated. Thanks!
